This picture shows the aftermath of an ice storm in January of 2005. The beautiful white birch tree was covered with ice and bent to the ground. Ice was thick on everything then it turned bitter cold. The electric power was off for 49 hours. Although the house wiring had provisions for a portable generator hook-up, the generator had been sold at a local auction earlier in November with the hopeful expectations that it would be replaced with a newer model BEFORE another electric outage. It didn’t get replaced and we got along fine with our kerosene heater, kerosene lamps and Colman propane cooking stove. The moral of the story is Be Prepared and Plan Ahead!!!
